the body is a vessel
This vessel was one of the pieces I made for a collaborative pop-up exhibition at uni with Mali Taylor, titled Under the Rug. My ceramic cohort at university was made entirely of women, (ironically our studio building was dedicated to “The men’s working club”) and it's not uncommon for ceramics to be female dominated ….”craft”. Mali and myself were both struggling at the time with our uteruses and decided to channel that through making. This exhibition provided a unique opportunity to sit with a bunch of women of all ages and have a brutally honest conversation about female health care. After many hospital visits, internal ultrasounds, tests and doctor visits I still had to advocate for myself and try to prove that it wasn't just period pain.
