pair of hands

I sculpted these hands for one of my final pieces in my undergraduate degree. They are poised in a gentle cupped gesture of offering. Anything that you place within these hands immediately feels special, precious, nurtured and protected. For my final exhibition I installed these hands cupping a huge pile of fingernail clipping that I had collected for several years. It was rather enjoyable seeing people's reaction as they closely inspected the materials then recoiled at the realisation of what they were inches away from.
